Meet Kaitlyn Clark - National Team Athlete Rep

Kaitlyn Clark Canadian 64kg Champion

Here at SydFIT, we pride ourselves on creating a Culture of Champions, in the ring, on the training floor and in the community. We strive to ensure that all of our members are given the opportunity to work with the most developed and passionate trainers around. This, in part, is why we are excited to introduce to the SydFIT community one of our elite trainers, Kaitlyn Clark.

Beginning her boxing career in December 2010, Clark had her first fight only 6 months after she walked into the gym - and by no means was she a natural (there is video footage to prove it!). Through hard work, grit, and unwavering determination, Kaitlyn progressed from the girl everyone thought would quit, into a top-level international fighter in less than 9 years.

Kaitlyn first joined the SydFIT family on a part-time basis back in February 2019, when she began training with Coach Syd and sparring with Natasha ‘The Nightmare’ Spence to prepare for the Canadian Championships. Less than 9 weeks later, Kaitlyn would be named as Team Ontario Captain and go on to win, in dominating fashion, her first Canadian Championship Gold - earning her spot on the Boxing Canada National Team. She would then quit her professional career, uproot her life and move to Kitchener to go all-in on her journey, and join the SydFIT Team on a full-time basis with the goal of being on the podium at the 2024 Paris Olympics.

One of the assets that Clark believes makes her unique on the training floor is her love of education (she has an Honours Degree in Finance and French Linguistics!) and her professional background working with top level government officials for more than 8 years. Through both these avenues, and her 14 years of tutoring experience, Clark has honed her abilities to work with individuals with varying learning styles.

She also believes that everyone is capable of accomplishing anything they set their mind to.

Working with Kaitlyn allows members to learn from both a top-level international boxer, and someone who is continually growing and upping her own fight-game. A true student of the game, Clark brings the same mindset to working with clients in the Centre. She prides herself in always being open to learning more from a technical standpoint, and imparting the knowledge she does know onto others so that they are able to both get in shape and develop into technical boxers.

We here at SydFIT are ecstatic to be able to offer our members the opportunity to learn from and train with an elite level fighter like Kaitlyn. While she can be quite serious in the ring, she does have a not-so-serious side and loves to joke around and laugh with the clients she works with.

Combining her international in-ring experience with her love of cardio conditioning (can you say burpees for days?), you can be sure that she is going to push you to your limits, help you become a more technically sound boxer, and ensure you have a great time while doing it!

Kaitlyn’s Top Five Fast Facts:

  1. I love saxophone and trumpet music!

  2. My favourite food is watermelon.

  3. I’ve cut off the top of the same finger twice - so it is quite a bit shorter than it should be.

  4. My pet peeve is people who lick their fingers when they eat.

  5. I’m the only competitive boxer in the world with Rheumatoid Arthritis (a degenerative disease that causes inflammation and immobility in your joints).
