Over the course of the last year, everything from school to sports to social gatherings has been put on hold or modified. This has led many youth to spending most of their time at home and online.
This summer, SydFIT is making it our goal to help get kids up and moving with our summer boxing camps. The camps will run in 1 week increments and be broken down into various age groups from 8 to 16 years old.
The focus of the camps will be to bring fun and fitness to youth across the Waterloo region while also helping them develop confidence and leadership abilities. During the week, participants will learn the basics of boxing, engage with accomplished athletes from a variety of sports, and learn from sporting professionals on topics such as goal setting, mental training, and the importance of mobility.
SydFIT is working with members of our community to make the camps affordable to youth regardless of economic background. We are able to accomplish this through partnerships with some amazing companies in both the Waterloo Region and across Ontario.
Today, we want to give a special shout out to the team at Volden Contracting in Ottawa, Ontario. Volden Contracting specializes in large scale, high end landscaping, while also helping out their immediate community and communities across Canada.
It is because of companies, like Volden Contracting, that many youth in our community are able to have access to sport. Through their generous donation, 3 youth in our community will be able to attend the SydFIT “Champ Camps”, be coached by Canadian Champion Kaitlyn Clark, and learn about the sweet science in a fun and friendly environment.
Peter Volpato, owner of Volden Contracting, credits his involvement with sport as a youth for setting him up for success as an adult, “By giving kids the opportunity to experience sport, especially given the current world events, it allows them to have a positive outlet and a moment to shine. It also provides them with support and skills they will use in their future.”
Thanks to companies like Volden Contracting, we will be able to engage kids from across the community this summer at the SydFIT Champ Camps!
Peter also encourages others to find a way to give back to their community, "I encourage every business owner to support local first. And if you have the opportunity to spread it out, support other areas of the country." After all, we are all in this together.
If you are interested in sponsoring a youth to attend Champ Camps at SydFIT this summer, please email community@sydfithealth.ca.
